The Pru East District Assembly, in collaboration with the Local Council of Churches and the Office of the District Chief Imam, joined the rest of Ghana to commemorate the 2nd National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day as part of Ghana’s 66th Republic Day celebrations.
The programme was held on Wednesday, 1st July 2026, at the Yeji Astro Turf Pitch under the theme, “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want.” It brought together Christians, Muslims, Traditional Authorities, security agencies, public servants and residents from across the district to thank God for the peace Ghana continues to enjoy and to pray for continued unity, prosperity and national development.
Beyond the prayers and thanksgiving, the programme highlighted the strong spirit of religious harmony in the Pru East District, with Christians, Muslims and Traditional Authorities coming together in one gathering to seek God’s guidance and blessings for the nation.

The event was attended by representatives of Nana Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, Omanhene of the Yeji Traditional Area, traditional leaders from across the district, the District Chief Imam, Christian clergy, security agencies and other stakeholders. Also present were Hon. Dauda Abdul Nassir, District Chief Executive; Mr. Ewuntomah Akibu Abudu, Deputy District Coordinating Director; Assembly Members, Heads of Departments, Unit Heads, Assembly staff and members of the public.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Dauda Abdul Nassir thanked participants from the different faiths and traditional institutions for coming together in unity to celebrate the occasion. He said the large turnout reflected the strong commitment of the people of Pru East to peace, unity and mutual respect.
He encouraged residents to continue living together peacefully and supporting one another, explaining that unity remains the foundation for sustainable development. He also expressed optimism that the Pru East District would attain Municipal status within the coming year, creating new opportunities for development and improved service delivery.
The District Chief Executive further expressed concern about the increasing cases of drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, school dropout and child labour among the youth. He appealed to parents, guardians and all adults to help raise responsible children by instilling discipline, good moral values and the fear of God.

Chairman of the occasion, Nana Asunmang Kwame Denngeh, Sompahene/Ketakpanjihene of the Yeji Traditional Area, described prayer as an important foundation for peace and development. He urged residents to use the occasion to reflect on their lives, abandon negative behaviours and work together to build a better community.
He also encouraged everyone to help keep the environment clean, stressing that good sanitation and responsible behaviour are essential for healthy, peaceful and progressive communities.
Delivering the sermon, Very Rev. Andrews Gyening Gyapong reminded participants that building a better Ghana begins with changing individual attitudes. He urged citizens to reject corruption, dishonesty, environmental pollution, lateness to work and other practices that hinder national development, while embracing honesty, hard work and responsibility.
Sheikh Musah Alhassan Abdulai also called on residents to promote peace, unity and environmental cleanliness. He encouraged families and community leaders to work together to protect children and young people from drug abuse and other harmful behaviours that threaten their future.

The programme concluded with special prayers for the President, Government, traditional authorities, security agencies, the Pru East District Assembly and all the people of Ghana. Participants left with a renewed commitment to promote peace, unity, discipline and good moral values in their homes, workplaces and communities.

The National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day celebration once again demonstrated the importance of unity, mutual respect and shared responsibility in nation-building. By bringing together people from different faiths and backgrounds, the programme reinforced the collective commitment of the people of Pru East District to peace, moral values and sustainable development.
