Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) is a decentralized government of Ghana flagship programme; aimed at increasing and diversifying Ghana’s tree crop production and export, by promoting tree crops such as cashew, coconut, oil palm, coffee, rubber and shea nut in addition to the already well-known cocoa and also to promote rural economic growth and improve household income of rural farmers
Since the inception of the Programme in 2018, the Pru East District’s Department of Agriculture through the sponsorship of the Pru East District Assembly, has cumulatively raised 94,040 seedlings and distributed to 775 beneficiary farmers to establish 2,357 acres of cashew plantation in the district; out of which 12,000 seedlings were raised and distributed to 150 farmers to establish 300 acres of cashew plantations for the 2022 planting season.
