In a short ceremony held on Thursday, 7th July, 2022, the District Chief Executive of the Pru East District, Hon Alhaji Abdulai Adams handed over 200 dual desks to the Education Directorate. Present at the ceremony were staff of the District Assembly, Staff of the Education Directorate, media and some Hon. Assembly members.
The DCE handing over the desks to the District Director of Education, revealed that the consignment of desks were received from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Decentralization for onward distribution to schools within the district. Continuing his statement, he urged the Directorate to not only distribute the desks to less endowed public schools but also give precedence to private schools. In addition, he entreated the Directorate to ensure that the desks were properly maintained and put to good use. He ended his statement by informing the Directorate that processes were far advanced for the Assembly to procure additional thousand (1000) desks for remaining schools across the district. He lastly assured the Directorate of the Assembly’s support to help improve education within the district.
The Director of Education, Mr. Sylvester Tabiasi-Naa who received the desks on behalf of the directorate thanked the government for that matter the Hon. DCE and the Assembly for the donation and promised to put it to good use. While appreciating what had been received, he appealed to the Assembly to procure more desks with specific reference to mono desks for kindergarten pupils. He revealed that most of kindergarten schools lacked furniture and this he said forced most of the children to either sit on kitchen stools or mats whiles learning. He therefore pleaded with the Assembly to procure kindergarten desks to help improve the conditions of these preschools.
