The 38th Celebration of the National Farmers Day in the Pru East district was held at Konkoma; in the Konkoma Traditional Council of the Pru East District. As has always been the case, this farmer’s day celebration was organized to motivate and award deserving farmers and fishermen in the Pru East District for their contributions towards the development of the district’s agriculture sector.
A total of eighteen (18) Crop, Livestock and Fishermen/Fish Processors were honored and awarded during the ceremony under the chair of Nana Kwaku Duah III (acting President of Konkoma Traditional Council). Awards were subdivided into three Major and Fifteen Minor categories in all. Major categories included:
- District Best Farmer,
- 1ST Runner up (2ND Best Farmer) and
- 2ND Runner up (3RD Best Farmer),
The minor award categories were commodity-based awards subdivided into three (3) main commodities as follows:
- Crop Based Commodities: Maize, Rice, Yam, Vegetables, Cowpea, Cassava, and Sorghum
- Livestock based Commodities: Small ruminants (Sheep and Goats), Cattle, Poultry and Piggery
- Fisheries based Commodities: Fisher man, Fish Processor and Fresh Fish Dealer
In order to promote all year farming in the district, an irrigation farmer was also awarded. Consolation prizes were also given to farmers who exhibited produce from their farms during the occasion.
The celebration was attended by more than 600 farmers, fishermen, opinion leaders and Heads of department of the District. The District Chief Executive (Hon Alhaji Adams Abdulai) delivered the keynote address under the theme “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition”.
