To mark the ceremony, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Abdulai Adams (Alhaji), the District Director of Education, Mr. Sylvester Tabiasi-Naa, the Deputy Director, Mr. Faridu Fuseini, the PRO for GES, the Head of Supervision, Mr. Nakoja Barnabas, and an Assistant Director, Miss Gertrude Okyere toured schools including Labo D/A Primary School, Nsuano D/A school, Bankama D/A Primary, Parembo D/A Primary School, Kojo Boffour D/A Primary School among others to mark the event.
The Pru East District Assembly in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) marked its annual ceremony dubbed ‘My first day at School’. This is an event held annually, at the beginning of every academic year to welcome children who enter Kindergarten for the first time and those who join the mainstream school system at Basic One within the country. The event was also to motivate first-time attendants to stay in school through the provision of gifts. Items given out to children included toffees, biscuits, drinks, erasers, pencils and books.
At each school visited, the Public Relations Officer for GES, the Director of Education and the Hon. District Chief Executive seized the opportunity to address pupils on the importance of schooling. Children were also motivated to continue attending classes and not just ‘My First Day at school.
Addressing the school audience, the District Chief Executive encouraged teachers and pupils to freely discharge their educational responsibilities adding that, the government in that matter, the Assembly would continuously support schools and teachers with all necessary logistics to facilitate teaching and learning. He encouraged the school children to take their studies seriously to enable them achieve their dreams. Interacting with some learners, they shared some of their dreams to become nurses, doctors, police officers, presidents, coiffeurs, and chauffeurs, among others.
As a way to motivate the first-time attendants and pupils joining the mainstream school at Class one, the Hon. District Chief Executive presented toffees, erasers, pencils etc. to them.
