Annual PANTUFEST Celebration in Pru East District

As part of efforts to utilize the ferry (Pantu) for tourism potentials, the Pru East District Assembly collaborated with Alive FM to organize “PANTUFEST”, an annual event organized in the ferry (Pantu) where various dishes are made available (Food Bazaar) for feast and participants simultaneously treated to great music (Live performances from Artists within the District) whilst onboard to a tourist site/destination.

This year, the event held on 1st January, 2022, was accordingly organized by the Pru East District Assembly in collaboration with Alive FM. The event saw over 300 participants (mostly youth) board the ferry from Yeji to the largest Island on the Volta Lake, Accra Town, a distance of about 50km.

Participants had the opportunity to be on the Volta Lake for over two (2) hours travelling from Yeji to Accra Town to see the highest Island on the Lake.

The event saw dignitaries such as the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Abdulai Adams (Alhaji), Nananom, Moslem leaders such as Alhaji A. Y. Amuda, Youth leaders, Political Party Executives within the District, Youth Leaders and the general youth.

The Hon. DCE addressing residents of the area wished them a Happy and Prosperous New Year.  He commended the Assembly Member, Hon. Gbenor M. Collins and the Unit Committee Chairman for liaising with organizers of the programme to host participants of the event at the area.

He further revealed that after a short tour he, in consultation with other key stakeholders will make necessary arrangements to ensure that the Accra Town Island is further developed into a proper tourist potential.

The PANTUFEST brought together the youth and many local economic businesses such as; retailers of carbonated and alcoholic drinks, kheebab sellers, food vendors etc.
