KONKOMA AREA COUNCIL HOLDS TOWN HALL MEETING.

PRU EAST RELEASE –

The Konkoma Area Council has successfully held a Town Hall Meeting aimed at strengthening engagement between local authorities and residents on issues of security, governance, revenue mobilisation and development within the Konkoma enclave. The meeting brought together community members, traditional leaders, representatives of the Assembly and security personnel to discuss matters affecting the growth and well-being of the area.

Addressing the gathering, Miss Gertrude Okyere provided a comprehensive overview of the composition and functions of the Area Council and highlighted its critical role in local governance and grassroots development. She explained that Area Councils serve as important structures within the local government system, facilitating the implementation of development programmes and enhancing community participation in decision-making processes.

Miss Okyere further emphasised the need for collective responsibility in promoting the development of the area. She noted that the successful implementation of community projects largely depends on the availability of resources and urged residents to support the Assembly’s efforts by fulfilling their civic responsibility of paying taxes and other approved levies. According to her, internally generated revenue remains a key source of funding for development projects, including the provision of social amenities, maintenance of infrastructure and improvement of essential services within communities.

The meeting also featured a presentation by the District Police Commander, ASP Gideon Ahenkorah, who addressed issues relating to peace, security and public safety in the area. Speaking on behalf of the security agencies, he assured residents of the commitment of the Ghana Police Service and the PRU East District Security Council to maintaining law and order throughout the district.

ASP Ahenkorah disclosed that the PRU East District Security Council has resolved to take decisive measures to eliminate recurring conflicts between farmers and cattle owners, which have become a major concern in some communities. He stressed that peaceful coexistence among all groups remains essential for the socio-economic development of the district and assured residents that the Security Council would continue to work closely with all stakeholders to prevent disputes and maintain harmony.

As part of efforts to strengthen security within the enclave, the District Police Commander announced plans to intensify police patrols in the area through the deployment of motorbike patrol teams. He explained that the use of motorbikes would enable officers to respond more effectively to security concerns, particularly in communities and locations that are difficult to access by conventional patrol vehicles. He encouraged residents to continue collaborating with the Police by providing timely information that would assist in crime prevention and the protection of lives and property.

The meeting provided residents with an opportunity to raise concerns, make contributions and interact directly with officials on matters affecting their communities. Participants expressed appreciation to the Area Council and the Assembly for organising the forum and creating a platform for meaningful dialogue and citizen engagement. Residents demonstrated keen interest in the discussions and actively took part in deliberations on issues relating to development and service delivery.

While commending the efforts of the Assembly and other stakeholders, residents appealed for the accelerated implementation of development projects within the Konkoma enclave. They called for improvements in infrastructure, public services and other interventions aimed at enhancing living conditions and promoting economic growth in the area. Participants noted that the availability of adequate social amenities and improved road networks would contribute significantly to the overall development of the community.

The Town Hall Meeting concluded with a shared commitment by community members, the Area Council, the Assembly and the security services to work together in advancing the development agenda of the Konkoma enclave. Participants expressed optimism that the concerns raised and recommendations made during the meeting would contribute to improved service delivery, enhanced security and the accelerated development of the area.

The Konkoma Area Council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and inclusive governance through regular engagement with residents and other stakeholders, while continuing to work towards the socio-economic advancement of the community.
