The Pru East District Assembly has handed over school furniture providing 1,028 student seats to the District Directorate of Education for distribution to public schools across the district. The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, 16th July 2026, with the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Dauda Abdul Nassir, officially presenting the furniture on behalf of the Assembly.
The furniture, procured through the 2025 District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), forms part of the Assembly’s efforts to reduce the district’s 11,228-seat deficit and improve teaching and learning. The items include dual desks, mono desks (tables and chairs), hexagonal tables and chairs, and teachers’ tables and chairs. The intervention also marks the Assembly’s transition from wooden furniture to stronger, more durable and comfortable metal furniture.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Dauda Abdul Nassir said the intervention demonstrates the Government’s Reset Agenda, which seeks to improve public service delivery by investing in key sectors such as education to provide every child with a better learning environment. He explained that after the District Directorate of Education officially informed the Assembly of the district’s 11,228-seat deficit, the Assembly responded promptly by procuring the furniture through the 2025 District Assemblies Common Fund.
The DCE noted that the furniture, providing 1,028 student seats, will significantly reduce classroom furniture shortages and improve teaching and learning in beneficiary schools. He further assured residents that the Assembly would procure additional furniture through the 2026 District Assemblies Common Fund to continue reducing the furniture deficit.
He also announced that three completed school projects—Sawaba KG Block, Al-Iman Islamic Primary School, and Yeji Kwayease JHS—will receive part of the new furniture to ensure they become fully completed and furnished facilities. He added that several other educational infrastructure projects are currently under construction across the district.

The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Kaleem Abdallah Adam, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting all sectors, particularly education. He appealed to teachers, students and school authorities to appreciate the Assembly’s investment by taking proper care of the furniture, stressing that poor maintenance culture can undermine development efforts and waste public resources.
He also encouraged students to value the efforts of the Government, the Assembly and other stakeholders by studying hard and making good use of the improved learning environment so they can succeed academically and contribute to the development of their communities.
Receiving the furniture on behalf of the Directorate, Mr. Sylvester Tabiasi-Naa, District Director of Education, expressed appreciation to the Assembly for responding promptly to the Directorate’s request. He explained that the district’s 11,228-seat deficit has affected teaching and learning for years and described the intervention as a significant step towards improving classroom conditions.
Mr. Tabiasi-Naa noted that replacing wooden furniture with durable metal furniture will help address the challenges of damage, misuse and theft experienced in the past. He appealed to teachers, students, parents and community members to protect the furniture and assured the Assembly that it would be distributed fairly to schools based on identified needs and maintained properly.
