The Pru East District Assembly has begun a weekly clean-up exercise along the Yeji lakeside and market area to prevent waste from polluting the Volta Lake and to promote a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone.
The Assembly has observed that after the busy Sunday, Monday and Tuesday market days, large quantities of rubbish, especially plastic waste, are left around the Yeji lakeside market. Without regular collection, much of this waste can easily be washed or blown into the Volta Lake, posing a serious threat to the environment and the communities that depend on the lake.
To address this challenge, the Assembly has designated every Wednesday as a clean-up day. On this day, its sanitation team and waste management equipment will collect and clear all accumulated refuse along the Yeji lakeside and market area.

The exercise is part of the Assembly’s ongoing commitment to improving sanitation, protecting the Volta Lake from pollution, and creating a cleaner and safer environment for traders, residents, visitors and all those who use the lakeside.
Wednesday, 15th July 2026, marked the first day of this weekly clean-up exercise, which will now become a regular activity to ensure that waste generated during market days is promptly cleared before it reaches the lake.

While the Assembly is committed to playing its part, it believes that keeping Yeji clean is a shared responsibility. The Assembly therefore appeals to traders, transport operators, business owners, residents and visitors to support this initiative by disposing of waste properly, using approved waste bins and dumping sites, and avoiding littering around the market and lakeside.
Protecting the Volta Lake is not only the responsibility of the Assembly—it is the responsibility of all of us. By working together, we can reduce pollution, protect one of our most valuable natural resources, and build a cleaner, healthier and more attractive Pru East District for both present and future generations.
